San Miguel Taste: Let’s Taco Tuesday

San Miguel Taste: Let’s Taco Tuesday !

I mean… who doesn’t love tacos, really? Tacos are the true essence of Mexico, one of the many delicious reasons we all fall in love with this country. This time, San Miguel Taste ventured to Taquiños, located on Lower Ancha right across from the Crunchy Chicken spot (Ancha de San Antonio 28B). The visit came highly recommended by a friend who swears by it as his post-gym protein stop,  and honestly, he was onto something.

Taquiños describes itself as premium-cut tacos on charcoal-grilled skewers, and the concept delivers exactly that. The brand originated in Querétaro and, three years later, opened its doors in San Miguel to let locals and visitors indulge in these savory, Brazilian-style charcoal-grilled meat tacos. Think bold flavors, generous portions, and serious taco craftsmanship.

Come Hungry (or Come With Friends) the menu is extensive, and portions are definitely on the generous side. Like my gym-loving friend warned me, come hungry. Alternatively, this is the perfect spot to share with your special someone, family, or a group of friends.

Taquiños sells tacos by the piece, which makes it easy to mix and match. Among the standouts:

  • Bone marrow taco: rich, indulgent, and deeply flavorful
  • Trompo al pastor: served dramatically on an espada (vertical skewer), always a showstopper
  • Arrachera taco: juicy and savory with beautiful char
  • Sirloin taco: more delicate but still packed with flavor

Each bite reflects that charcoal-grilled technique that gives the meat its signature smoky edge.

The “Star” Tacos

Now let’s talk about the heavy hitters,  the tacos Taquiños is truly known for. I tried the TAQUIÑO, a generously sized taco served on a flour tortilla and loaded with arrachera, cheese, guacamole, and,  surprise, one shrimp on top. Our waiter, Iván, thoughtfully asked if we needed extra tortillas, because you can very easily make two tacos out of this single serving. Pro tip: say yes. Another highly recommended option is the picaña taco, a favorite cut for meat lovers thanks to its tenderness and rich flavor.

For those feeling adventurous, there’s the boldly named ENCABRONADO (yes, Mexican swear word for “pissed off”). This powerhouse taco combines picaña and bone marrow for a seriously indulgent experience. It’s big, bold, and not for the faint of heart.

Salsa Situation

Taquiños keeps the salsa service simple but effective. They bring:

  • A very mild green salsa
  • A red salsa with a bit more attitude

And then… there are the chiles toreados,  grilled serranos with onions. Consider yourself warned: these little beauties are very spicy. Approach with respect.

Seafood & Sandwich Surprises

We also sampled the gobernador tacos (cheese, grilled shrimp, and peppers), which offered a nice seafood contrast to the meat-forward menu.

But the surprise star outside the taco realm? The Chorpipicaña sandwich. This beauty combines Argentine chorizo, picaña, chimichurri sauce, and melted cheese into what can only be described as an absolute delight. If you’re in the mood to branch out from tacos, this one is worth the detour.

Drinks & Sweet Finish

Taquiños features an open bar, making it easy to pair your meal with a refreshing mezcalita (highly recommended for Taco Tuesday vibes). They also offer a small dessert menu, perfect if you want a little sweet note to close out your meal.

Final Bite

Taquiños brings something fun and satisfying to San Miguel’s taco scene: premium cuts, charcoal flavor, generous portions, and a casual, energetic atmosphere that works whether you’re refueling after the gym or settling in for a relaxed night out.

If you’re craving bold, protein-packed tacos with a smoky edge, this spot absolutely hits the mark.

I have a feeling you’ll enjoy Taquiños as much as I did. Follow them on Instagram: @ taquinos.sma

Why Working With a Licensed Real Estate Agent in Guanajuato Actually Matters

In Mexico, real estate licensing is regulated at the state level, not the federal level. That means the rules, requirements, and oversight vary depending on where you are. In the state of Guanajuato, licensed agents are certified through a formal process that includes required coursework, a state exam, and ongoing professional standards.

Navigating Friendship: The Charm of Mexican Pueblo Life

I recently read an article in the New York Times about how to make friends as an adult. A completely valid discussion, especially considering how much harder it can be to connect with others now compared to our childhoods. Life moves quickly; we are busy with work, partners, and children who often serve as our built-in besties.
