San Miguel Buyer Review

This is a long overdue love letter of a review to Ruben Valerio and Don Flood of The Agency in San Miguel de Allende. As global citizens, my husband and I have interacted with real estate professionals all over the world... some exceptional – some not-so-great – but all - in some way felt – transactional. They had a property they wanted to get off the books – and we were in the market for something to buy. Ruben and Don offered something different – something exceptional - that I think must speak to the soul of “The Agency”... and I hope will serve as a model for all agents in San Miguel going forward. What they understood – was that our move to San Miguel was a reboot of our lives – a new chapter and a new adventure. We weren't just looking for a house – we were looking for a home that would launch new dreams and adventures. What they understood – was that buying a house here was about seeing possibilities... that's why we came. They took the time to understand the lives we had before coming here – who we are as people – and what essential parts of ourselves we were bringing – that could be reimagined here. After spending time with us, learning about us, there were interestingly specific about homes they showed us... Everything was curated. And when they did show us a place, they had specific reasons for why they were showing it to us – to Jeff and Joe – and how they saw a particular home fitting into not just who we are as people – but the aspirations we had for a life here in San Miguel. Both of them have formidable design instincts – and in each home – knowing what was important to us – they were able to paint a picture of ways it could be transformed or adjusted... Just as they could see “the potential life” we were creating in San Miguel – they saw the potential of the home to fit that vision. And once we found our home, it was Don and Ruben who not only guided us through what can be a very challenging purchase and closing process – they were instrumental in helping us through an extensive renovation. I am asked often to write recommendations. I rarely do because I think when you do – you take on the responsibility of the experience of the person who listened to you – who believed you. It should tell you something that, without hesitation, I recommend Don and Ruben and The Agency. What they are doing is alchemic – a marriage of all the practicalities, and logistics, of buying a home in San Miguel - combined with a deep desire to know their clients and WHY they are moving to San Miguel. We come to San Miguel for a reason – Don and Ruben work to find you a home – that not only fulfills that reason – but nurtures and develops it.
